What You’ll be Doing…

A System Engineer works as part of a cross-functional multi-platform Agile team, helping to instil a DevOps ethos by collaborating with project teams at all stages of the development process, sharing their operational and technical knowledge and insights, and utilising their cloud and systems expertise to build and maintain systems, thus supporting a Continuous Delivery approach that enables the fast-paced release of new applications and features.

As part of an Agile Tribe that is responsible for a suite of highly-available high-performant applications, our System Engineers build new tools and systems, automate processes and tasks, coach project teams in best practise support and operations, and manage technical and systems related projects.

Being highly adept multi-skilled engineers, they engage with other cross-company and cross-group IT teams on Infrastructure and IT-related projects, and act as technical representatives and ambassadors for the Tribe.

What We’re Looking For…

Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to design decisions from a System Engineering perspective
  • Cloud migrations and onboarding
  • Building, support, and maintenance of high-performance in-house and cloud-based systems
  • Middleware management and configuration
  • Involved in major event readiness, including Disaster Recovery and Failovers
  • Production ‘out of hours’ support alongside teammates, maintaining SLAs
  • Implementing production monitoring and metric measurement capabilities
  • Maintenance and decommissioning of legacy systems
  • Ensuring IT and Security policies are met or exceeded
  • Automation of everything!

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 4+ years’ experience in a Systems Administration or SRE role (Linux and/or Windows)
  • Cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and virtualisation (e.g. VMWare, Cloudify)
  • Centralised configuration management (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
  • Solid understanding of Networking and Internet protocols
  • Web/App container administration (e.g. Apache, Tomcat, IIS etc)
  • Systems security and OS hardening
  • Experience of Load Balancing (e.g. Netscaler) an advantage
  • Experience of Log Analysis tools (e.g. ELK, Splunk etc) an advantage
  • Experience of Agile and Continuous Delivery an advantage
